At JWG, we are committed to delivering precise and reliable railway surveys services that meet the highest industry standards, including NR/L2/TRK/3100. Our comprehensive suite of railway survey services is designed to support all stages of rail infrastructure projects, from initial planning and design to ongoing maintenance and upgrades.

Topographic Surveys

Our topographic surveys provide detailed and accurate mapping of the rail infrastructure, capturing the physical features and terrain of the railway corridor. Using latest equipment and technology, we ensure that every feature is accurately recorded, facilitating the design and planning of rail projects with precision.

We have experience in all sizes of project from small surveys for UTX installations or bridge repairs to large plain line track renewals and complex S&C projects. We always take the time to determine how our surveys will be untaken, to ensure we capture the data in the way that will suit our client most.

3D Laser Scanning

Utilising advanced 3D laser scanning technology, we offer highly detailed digital models of railway assets and the surrounding environment. This non-intrusive method captures millions of data points, creating precise 3D models that are invaluable for planning, design, and verification purposes. Our 3D laser scanning services ensure that even the most complex railway environments are accurately represented. 3D laser scanning can be used in a variety of ways for projects of all sizes, for example terrestrial laser scanners can be utilised to capture large amounts of detail for railway stations when planning Access For All (AFA) project, laser scanner mounted rail survey trolleys can be implemented to simultaneously capture high accuracy rail strings whilst also capturing comprehensive point cloud data of the surrounding structures or utilising mobile mapping equipment to capture large point cloud data of long section of track during short possessions.

Clearance and Structural Gauging Surveys

Safety and compliance are paramount in rail operations. Our clearance and structural gauging surveys ensure that all railway structures meet required clearance standards. By assessing the relationship between rolling stock and infrastructure, we help prevent potential obstructions and ensure safe, efficient operations.

Datum Plate Surveys

We conduct precise datum plate surveys to establish and verify clearances along the railway network. We have experience in datum plate installation for determining existing clearances where plate have been removed or need to be updated, as well as for design installation to allow for a maintainable track position.

Height & Stagger Surveys

Height and stagger surveys are essential for the safe operation of electrified railways. We measure the height and lateral position (stagger) of the overhead line equipment (OLE) in relation to the track, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and optimal performance of the railway’s electrical systems.

Platform Gauging

Accurate platform gauging is critical for passenger safety and comfort. Our surveys measure the horizontal and vertical alignment of platforms in relation to the track, ensuring that they meet the required standards for stepping distance and train clearances.

Track Alignment and Design Verification (DVS) Surveys

Our track alignment and Design Verification Surveys (DVS) ensure that rail tracks are installed accurately according to design specifications. We verify the horizontal and vertical alignment of the tracks, ensuring that they comply with industry standards and are fit for the passage of trains.

Drainage Surveys

Proper drainage is vital for the longevity and safety of railway infrastructure. Our drainage surveys assess the condition and capacity of existing drainage systems, helping to prevent water-related issues that could compromise track stability and safety.

Control Network Surveys

Establishing a robust and accurate control network is fundamental to all railway survey activities. Our control network surveys provide a reliable framework for all subsequent surveys, ensuring consistency and precision throughout the project lifecycle. We also assist construction clients by installing additional survey control to enable them to set-out for the construction works in a way that better suits to construction methodology.

Compliance with NR/L2/TRK/3100

All our railway survey services are conducted in strict accordance with the NR/L2/TRK/3100 standard, ensuring that our work meets the rigorous demands of the railway industry. We are committed to maintaining the highest levels of accuracy and reliability, providing our clients with the confidence that their projects are supported by industry-leading survey data.
